ETHIOPIAN LIMU

Organic Ethiopian Limu is from the home of coffee, or so it is argued. Not just a barren dry land but tropical jungle where coffee grows in wild gardens amongst other shade giving trees. We have chosen this coffee from the Illubabor district and taken it to a medium roast which enhances its fine floral taste and wonderful aroma.

ETHIOPIAN DJIMMA

Organic Ethiopian Djimma is the traditional coffee from the Kaffa district in western Ethiopia. It has a full bodied, earthy yet gamey flavour, being very distinctive – an acquired taste and not for the feint hearted! The flavour comes from the sun drying of the coffee on the ground. It is produced by many small farmers and sold in the daily auction in Addis Ababa.

SUMATRA

Organic Fairtrade Sumatran Takengon is grown close to the shore of Lake Toba nestling in the dormant volcanic mountains, home to the Sumatran tiger. We slowly roast the coffee to a deep colour which develops a rich chocolaty flavour. It has a wonderful aroma and leaves you with a velvety smooth aftertaste.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA
The Area of Coffee Production

The area of production lies in the mountainous Eastern Highlands close to the village of Okapa, in Papua New Guinea. The soil is very rich, dark red/brown in colour with volcanic origins. The water is taken from a crystal clear stream running close to the factory. The wet factory is situated some 65kms south of Goroka, but is about a 6 hour drive in a 4 x 4 vehicle or 25 minutes in a light plane or helicopter. The roads track the mountain ridges and during the rainy season they become totally impassable. The coffee is trucked out on an old six-wheel drive army vehicle once a week. Payment is made in cash, wrapped up in an old coffee sack, flown over the factory in a small Cessna plane and thrown out of the window at the critical point!

The coffee is hand picked when it is ripe (bright red) and dried in the sun, being constantly stirred to ensure even drying. The parchment is covered at night to protect it from the early morning dew. Due to the location of the coffee, the trees have never had chemical fertilisers or pesticides on them in their life. The local population rarely travels to the townships and has not been tempted to change their ways.
